(IM)PERFECT BAUHAUS

(Im)perfect Bauhaus is a projection mapping project that explores the aesthetics of imperfection as a form of counter-architecture, challenging the politics of perfection embedded in contemporary built environments.

Today, we are surrounded by architecture that appears clean, new, and constantly “perfect.” Yet this perfection is not natural; it is carefully constructed and maintained. In reality, buildings crack, stain, weather, and age, but these traces of time are often cleaned, repaired, renovated, or concealed in order to sustain the illusion of permanence and control. Over time, cleanliness becomes more than an aesthetic preference. It operates as a cultural and political image: a clean façade signifies not only the condition of a building, but also the authority, care, and stability of the owner, institution, or city behind it.

Through projection mapping, (Im)perfect Bauhaus reintroduces visual imperfections onto seemingly flawless architectural surfaces. It asks what happens when a building associated with Bauhaus ideals, cleanliness, simplicity, order, and perfection, is temporarily reimagined through imperfection. disrupting these dominant expectations and inviting audiences to question how perfection is constructed, perceived, and valued.

Ultimately, the work remains open-ended, inviting the audience to question what defines a “perfect” surface, who sets that standard, and how these aesthetic norms shape our understanding of architecture and the city.
